IOG convened a workshop to explore with regional, governorate and federal officials, how best to ensure that the crisis co-ordination function is well institutionalized within the Kurdistan Regional Government
The workshop, held in Amman, March 14-17, 2017, included officials from the KRG Ministries of the Interior, Planning, Health, Trade and Industry, Foreign Relations, Municipality and, Finance and Economy, as well as the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre itself.Representatives of the federal government were from the Ministry of Immigration.In addition, participants came from the Governorates of Erbil, Slemani and Duhok.A representative from United Nations OCHA also attended.
Maryantonett Flumian, President of the Institute, led the IOG team, which included Bill Crosbie, subject matter expert and a senior advisor at the Institute.Mr. Crosbie is Canada's former Ambassador to Afghanistan.Subsequent to that posting, as a senior official at Global Affairs Canada, he was responsible for establishing the department's Emergency Watch and Response Centre, providing international crisis coordination, and served as its first executive head, a position he held for six years.
