n are underrepresented in elected office, despite the proven abilities of women as leaders and agents of change, and their right to participate equally in democratic governance.
Iraq has legislated quotas for women in parliament, and as of the June 2010 election, just 25% of parliamentarians were women. Female elected officials at the federal and provincial/governorate level will become more effective actors in the legislature, supporting fiscal decentralization and federalism.

Sylvain Dubois, the Honourable Marie Poulin, and Steve Tierney from the IOG are meeting with a woman member of parliament in Kurdistan Regional Government to discuss the Gender Empowerment program in Iraq.

IOG undertook a mission to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and met with several Senior Eexecutives in the Kurdistan Regional Government to discuss the workplan for the coming year. Vice-President of IOG, Sylvain Dubois and Madeleine Meilleur, Senior Advisor meeting Minister of Municipality and Minister of Interior in Kurdistan Regional Government.

Iraqi women parliamentarian delegation were in a mission to Canada from September 21 - October 3 to expose them to the Canadian federal model and institutions, and to build a relationship with them.
